Just serviced my rear differential.

So if I bring it into the dealer I can drive it home, yet the gasket material says to wait 24 hours before adding fluid?

So can I drive it in the morning? ?????

The Ex is fine, but I need to rant for a moment...

Rant on

I am fed up with people thinking that my gravel driveway is there for them to turn around on! I am about to the point where I am going to put up gates or chains or something. EVERYONE STAY OFF MY PROPERTY UNLESS I KNOW YOU OR INVITE YOU!!!

I just hate that people have no respect for other's property, despite the NO TRESPASSING signs.

Rant off

On a sad note, I will be leaving my Ex at home as I deploy this Sunday to California for 50 days of training... I think I may just go through some serious with drawls

I wish that was the training I was in for

Unfortunately, the training center is north of San Fran, so I am more likely to see cows that I am to be seeing bikinis

Thanks!

I assembled it and then watched the second half of that travasty they called a football game last night. What a joke the NFL is becoming!

Oh well, after "curing" for a couple hours, I put the fluid in and parked her in the driveway for the night.

Good to go this morning.

Here's another question: what's your (or anyone else that wants to chime in) opinion - spray the gears throuroughly with brake cleaner, wipe down with lint free cloth, do nothing, or do a combination of all of them?

That's all a matter of how dirty stuff looks in there. I've done all of the above. It all depends on how dirty stuff looks, or if there was water/other crap in there. I usually make sure to "dig" the oil out of the bottom of the diff where there's little "pockets" right at the back/bottom.

I normally brake clean just to cut down the oil left so it doesn't seep into the seal when drying.

Doing this drys the gears though and they can flash rust so get at it and don't let it sit.

If you bought the gasket Moroso makes for our diffs, you wouldn't have to wait or worry if you put too much or too little RTV.

A coat of silicon dry lube after the brake cleaner takes care of this.

I thought of driving it down, and it is only a 12.5 hour drive, but the Govt. will not cover all the costs of fuel, however, they are paying for the plane tickets, so the Ex will be staying home.

Thanks for the offer, but it will be staying home. My wife did promise to start it up once a week and let it idle for about 10 minutes. Mainly to keep the batteries charged and ready for my return in November.
