Reason I ask, when between acceleration and deceleration, I get a "bobbling" from the rear. I've done everything else, driveshaft, rear wheel bearings, balance....I guess its the center. It still locks thought, went a bit sideways in the rain when the turbo spooled. Lash maybe? 197K. Trying to avoid catastrophe with a little PM.

When you jack up the rear end check the backlash of the driveshaft input compared to the axle movement. If it is excessive it is possible the clutches are gone.

Once you pop the diff cover it should be pretty obvious. Check the backlash again with the cover off and see if the spiders are loose (not a worn pin or other problem) against the clutches.

Yes the diff can be pulled out, new clutches installed, and reinstalled. Make super duper sure the diff shims go back in their same side/spot. When you loosen the diff, pull the shims out of one side and zip tie them together and place on (or around) the rear end on the side they came out of. Same with the bearing races.

that angle grinder probably would have been a lot less dangerous if it had an eraser wheel attachment

Russ, thanks for sharing that. It's hard to even think for winter yet, I'm at 90 degrees here today and it's cloudy.

Yeah, that's not happening... The pin striping is growing on him.

lol miles, that was a good one.

yes Archion, you are correct. On their way to the dump though!

Got the first coat of POR-15 on the front bumper. Trying to decide between bedliner or regular gloss black rust paint as the topcoat.

Cheers,

Nate

LOLOLOL, ya know, if the stars ever align and Michael decides to sell his Ex, and I can properly plan for an armored truck to drop a money bag for me so I can buy his Ex, and his black beauty becomes my black beauty, I still wouldn't take any pics of the underside and post them here!

Took the Ex for a drive to check if I had finally fixed the turbo noise problem. She didn't disappoint. All the noise is now gone and the culprit was a little copper gasket on the old y-pipe.

did front brakes and rotors today

I did my front brakes and rotors today. I needed to get rid of a warped rotor that was on it when I bought it. Well I am paying for doing it today. It was in the 90's today not too bad but being a disabled veteran, my back and knees are not happy. I hope moving tomorrow isn't a problem. My slide pins were in good shape except for one that didn't want to move at all. I wish I had a wire wheel......I got it cleaned up and lubed all the zerks. Steering seems to be better but it could just be my imagination. Sorry no pics, I was lucky I was able to finish and get in the house. But I still would count it as a good day, a bad day working on the excursion is still better than working on a chevy

Took the Ex out for its first test drive after the engine swap. Got about 5 miles from home and ran out of diesel. Ugh. Had my old man bring me out 5 gallons and eventually got it running again. Seems fine other than that screw up

I knew you could be happy to see it, I just hope it means a heavy snow season for us. I have a BUNCH of Boss plows to sell at work...hoping for sales!

I just pulled a 6 store system 2 years ago, with a BCM450 at the main store.

Glad to see it all gone.
