What I would recommend that is that you make sure to closely inspect the water pump pocket in the engine front cover. I have read more than one account of the engine front cover having cavitation markings and porosity in the water pump area.

I would think that when you already have the front of the engine accessible to replace the water pump, it would be the best time to replace the engine front cover as well, if needed.

You can either use the T444E waterpump from Dieselsite seen here: http://www.dieselsite.com/1996-2003f...terpump-1.aspx

Or you can do what us "normie's" do and just get a pump from either O'reilly or the dealer and call it a day. I made sure and used a somewhat generous amount of RTV on the seal and thermostat housing so leaks were not a problem.
Thanks guys. Yeah, its a diesel and its a bad water pump. I put the hose in the degas bottle and when it got there, it just started pouring out the bottom of the pump. Easy diagnosis.

I need to do this Sunday so part availability is key. I would like to put an OEM pump on it. We'll see. Need the fan wrenches too. All this with hockey and trying to get a car ready for the Chicago show.....sleep.....work.....ugh.

Toreador, I have the Sinister filter already. Installed the filter element to the rad bkt but thats as far as I got. I just need a standard pump.

Last night I hooked the pickup box trailer to it, filled it with 22 used railroad ties, and dropped off the trailer at my friends for him to make use of the ties.
This morning I found some neat looking frost on it.

Changed the front left ABS sensor. I had an issue with the ABS a while back, cleaned all the sensors and thought it was good. Couple weeks later it started doing it again intermittently. Very subtle, mostly just feel it in the pedal. A couple times it pulled to the right hard (briefly), so that pointed me to the left side. X-ing fingers that takes care of the issue.

No writeup, it was an extremely simple job. I can see some issues if you have a rusty truck with getting the small bolts out, but otherwise very simple and self explanatory when you take the wheel off.

I also checked the air in the spare, good thing. 15 PSI wouldn't have done me much good. Must be a slow leaker, it's been a couple years since I checked it.

Monday I drove it back from visiting my family in Oregon, about 550 miles each way to see them.

Yesterday I had it washed / vacuumed out - the place by my house does good work for 23 bucks. Fortunately it has wax on it already, I wouldn't want to wax it myself as it'd take all day. Its about to go into storage until March while I'm in Afghanistan so I thought I'd clean it up nice before I left.

Got the wife's ex back from the shop. New head gaskets, studs, reservoir and cap, banjo bolts, new #5 injector and new glow plugs and harness. Also, new t stat and hoses. Wallet is really empty but now she's bulletproof. 😄

I decided on my summer road trip, somewhere I've never been...out of my country!

Dawson City, Yukon ...the gold rush has always peaked my interest and when i was talking to a coworker about it today. He was telling me how him and his wife almost died going up there years ago it sounded like a blast haha Plus i'll get to say I've been to Chicken, AK. Its only about 510 miles away one way so not all that bad.

Packed it full of fuel and friends and headed to Austin.

Any guesses why?

Don't mind the last one.
