What did you do to the X today?
Sorry Karl I hate to disappoint but this is what's left, no problem towing though!

got my 2008+ style mirrors in today. Somehow in all the threads I missed that the 2002+ trucks have the square plug. simplest install in the world. unscrew 4 nuts, pop the door panel off, disconnect plug...reverse to install. easy peasy
the 2008+ mirrors are ridiculously huge compared to stock tow mirrors. I love them! It's dark outside, so pics must wait
also got and installed my 4x2 hatch struts...not gonna hit my head anytime soon

Not bad Dave, should only take maybe 100 or so lbs off the tongue and most new TTs have fairly heavy tongues. The new Eagle trailer we are trying to make a deal on is at 1100lbs dry TW, I plan on fabbing up a rear extension for bikes and what not, my goal is to keep the TW at or below 1400lbs. Thats the limit on our Hensley Arrow hitch, the current ToyHauler without toys in the garage and empty tanks runs about 1475lbs TW.
If I remember right this camper sits about 750 lbs on the ball. I just have a regular wt distribution hitch and no sway control. So I figure it I can do 65 mph this evening ill be doing good. Prob just set the cruise at 60 mph.
I have never heard of this before, I've been jumped my many gas engines and none have ever had issues afterwards. My dad jumped me with his Honda accord (45 minute ordeal) and no issues a year later. My alternator died last year but that is due to my excessive stereo system.
A 12V system is a 12V system. It is incurring an extra heavy load on your alternator but it's just making it work harder, similar to if your batteries are weak.

Thats what one would think but the systems are all made by different manufacturers and that is where the problems come from.
I as well have jump started many many vehicles in my life with all sort of other vehicles. I have used my little honda to jump start our plow truck and even our other diesels. I have used a lawn mower before to charge and "jump" a car.
But for some reason and I am going to blame the design and make the system in these super duties and excursions put an excessive load threw the alternator burning stuff up (I believe). I say I believe because it is all speculation by me until I open my alternator up and see what exactly happened. Also it may just have been my luck that day as well, I could possibly jump many vehicles off the X without problem but for some reason just that one time did something to mine.
Maybe the ford alternator from these years didn't have enough rectifiers to handle the load and when a couple burn up it makes a huge difference on the charging system. Or the rectifiers they used are weak and burn up easily?
Thats the thing. The components should be the same for more than a few different makes of alternators but I can imagine ford found some china company that made them for $0.02 less but in turn last only half the time of other normal components and can't take any loads.
Or like I said ford used less rectifiers to save money so when one or two burn out it takes a huge toll on the alternator output.
my 2008 sprinter has this system and it is a biatch! I have been driving my ex to work because my sprinter broke down last sunday. it has had electrical gremlins ever since last june when I had the trans serviced and the tech overfilled it. this caused the fluid to burp out of the fill tube all over the alternator shorting it out and melting half the engine wiring harness.
at this point, I wish it had caught fire and burned to the ground!

Found that my vacuum pump was constantly running. I think thats why the last one stopped working. Did the process of elimination checking for leaks and making sure the reservoir wasnt leaking. My truck doesnt have auto hubs anymore so I eliminated those vacuum lines a while ago. I found that the auto hub lock solenoid was leaking. Eliminated that and I now have a closed system again and the pump actually shuts off now.
I also ordered the Riff Raff fuel bypass. Will be installing as soon as I get it. Next will be gauges, FP, EGT(s), boost and trans temp. Was thinking about the 3 in 1 GlowShift but may reconsider.

Really needing your guys' help in diagnosing an on going electrical problem I'm having.
Background
Last summer took a road trip and alternator went out and was replaced. On that trip started seeing problems with my cruise control, headlights(HID's); turning on dims the dash, hi's caused the speedometer and other gauges to quickly flux and then go back to proper readings.
Everything was "alright" in the sense that the only problems were those stated above. Well tuesday night on my way home from school, I was driving on the surface streets, stopped at a light.....then all of a sudden the battery symbol on the dash flashed and no more than a second later, the car stopped. All dash lights still on and headlights still on, but couldn't start the X at all. Was able to wait a bit and once my parents got there it did start and I was able to pull off to the side and diagnose it a little better, dad looked at it and at the moment couldn't really tell what would be wrong. I had him drive it home for me though. It's been starting fine again but I have NO CLUE as to what to look for and really need someone else to look at it.
Again it's a 05 X 4x4 V10 with almost 113k miles

(im an electrical apprentice) Was installing a 20kw kohler standby generator today, some rhododendrons needed removal. shovel? no. forks on the mini bobcat? yes!
and yes, a ford towed the trailer with the mini bobcat
