Motor Oil Cooler

Motor Oil Cooler
I dont recall who it was that wanted or needed a secondary cooler.
I have a PSD oil cooler up for grabs. Its air to liquid. Its an addition to the oem (liquid/liquid). Complete setup with dual remote filters, t-stat (bypass) and fan. Used takeoff. All you would need is new pushloc hose for your install.
Act quick it will be off to Flea-Bay.

You have a good memory Travis. I put one on mine already and my oil, when pulling, will stay around 220*. I have a thermostat setting also and can change this setting. Bob at Dieselsite said the oil should be HOT. Mine was getting over 240 and Bill said IIRC that over 240 was bad. The only thing that concerns me is that it has increased my oil PSI up 10lbs. I can't seem to get an answer to whether this is good, bad or indifferent?

220/230*F is the sweet spot temp (water removal)
I average 20*F higher than my coolant temps.
System up for grabs is from my van.
I used to turn the system off in winter (bypass) and on in summer.
Have no real use for it now as the van does light duty work now.
The removal of the system was more about filters. (amounts/costs)
Now I change only 2 filters and not 3.

Did you go with the 2 quart filter setup or still use the one 1 and 1/2 quart filter?

Travis, I used a Flex-a-lite pn FLX-45951 or one just like it, I can't remember for sure. I searched for a sandwich adapter for the oil filter and could not find one. I got a adapter from Amsoil distribtor that screws on in place of the oil filter to get the oil supply. Then I used a remote oil filter mount for the oil filter. I had to mount it far back as you can see to find a place to put it. The length of hose and the restriction of everything kicked up my oil pressure an average of 10psi. I've asked a dozen times if this would make a difference, I guess nobody knows. Its not a professional install but works. I have it set on about 220*, before the install I was seeing 250 and up! Funny, the water temps were normal.

Bill, I feed the filter first and used the feed and return as you said. I'm thinking about just taking it off because of all the problems brownie had. Probably not related but it bothers me. I really wanted to find a sandwich adapter but could not find one for a PSD. I'm thinking that a sandwich adapter would be less restrictive but don't know unless I try one.

With the way you use the truck i shure would keep the cooler.
While 260 is max, i like to see 220/230 as best average
The issue with brownie has nothing to do with a cooler use.
My thought at first was the filter could be plumbed backwards.
this would fight the rubber flap in the filter. Another would be
the oil lines to the filter look tight (bends). No tight 90* bends or fittings
is best for oil systems.
What are your running temp pressures?
On another note.
I like to see AN fittings used for connections and not hose clamps
for oil lines.
