Hard to Find 225/70R14 Tires
Started shopping for tires for my 1998 Ranger SuperCab 2WD 3.0L V6. Have 225/70R14 on it now (same as my 1996 Ranger). Years past bought them from Sams, but they and lots of others no longer stock 14" tires.
Any of you run into similar problem? Have put off doing right away, and am willing to order a set in. Don't really want to replace the wheels just to make it easier to get tires.
Truck is high mileage (~ 180K) but don't want to get so cheap a tire that I'm cursing it. Thanks in advance.

Take a look on Tire Rack.
I found a set of Michelin LTX M&S on "Sale" for my 99, that blew away any local price I could get at the time.
Even with shipping & having my local service station mount, spin balance & install them, the job was $100 less for the set of four installed, than the best local quote I could get at the time.
I've also had the same expierence with Tire Rack on my replacement trailer tires.
The trick to large savings, is to watch & catch your size on sale at Tire Rack!!!!

I have run into similar problems finding 14" tires as well...........seems like tire stores only stock those gigantic 18"-20" ghetto bling tires with no sidewall, and about a foot wide for the rice burner kids, or 33" x 12.50s for the mud folks. Tires for normal, older rigs seem to almost be special order!

I saw this thread and chuckled. I had the exact same problem. The lot I bought the truck from gave me 4 slicks and a flat spare, so I wanted 5 good 225/70R14 light truck (all terrain/highway) tires.
Checked every tire place in town, and all I could find were "performance" passenger tires.
Finally checked Wal-Mart not expecting to find much of anything, and found Uniroyal Liberators for about $90 a pop. Got five since I had some money left over from selling another car.
Long story short, check Wally World.

Firestone makes a couple tires in that size. Theit Destination AT and Destination LE I think. I have been running into the same problem with the tires for my 94. Not much for choices out there. My local tire store suggested that I go to a 15" rim and like a 215/70-15. Only about 3/8 inch narrower but within 1/2" of the same height I think. Lots more choices for 15's out there.
