VSS Location 94'F250
I have a 1994 F250 5.8 4wd E4od. I've been experiencing hard shifts, speedo non operational. Tranny shop says I'ts reading a VSS failure. I've been told there are two VSS, one on the rear end that primarily controls the Antilock brake function. And the other is at the tranny somewhere. At the parts house two are listed and I bought the one that is listed to be located on the tranny, but for the life of me I can't find it on the tranny. Can anyone help???

VSS location
See, this is what is confusing me. Because there are two vss listed for this truck at both Napa and Car Quest and even other online parts suppliers. And two sources have told me that the one on the rear end is primarily for anti lock brake function, which became standard equip in 92-93. So where is the other one located.

You only have the one that is on top of the rear end. Both Napa and Car Quest and even other online parts suppliers are wrong for your truck.
However the 1994 F53 with a E4OD does have it on the transmission extension housing and not the rear end.
The reason I said this is because the one for the transmission extension housing looks the same but will not work in the rear end as it sets at a slightly different depth. So do not get the wrong one.
The one that most of the books say fits yours was not used from 1992 to at least 1996 on the F-series trucks.

+1 on that, the parts store listings are misleading at best for these trucks.. lots of errors and incomplete information. The guys here know these trucks better than anyone so you can trust the information they give you.
