C6 questions?

Well start off with. i have a 96 F350 with a C6. i have another C6 from a 1980 f250 and was wondering if i could rebuild the 1980 C6 and install into the 96?

I need to be able to keep the 96 on the road but it needs some help with the trans, aswell as other areas. any help would be appreciated. thanks

i just hate to go in blind. i would think bolt patterns would match on the bell housing. but am concerned about the gear selector cable, transfer case lever and anything else might be connected there

The bellhousing is the same. But you're right to be worried about those things. I would also be concerned about the overall length of the transmission. Not all C6's were are the same. There are many different varieties. Sixteen years is a lot of time for Ford engineering to make significant changes. My guess is that the only way you'll find out for sure is if you try it yourself.

alright, i'll go ahead and pull the 1980 C6 and compare with the one in my 96, pull out the measuring tape and the hawk eyes and see if i notice anything significant. worst case i guess i can rebuild the old one and sell it, hopefully buy a newer one that will work.

thank you for the help
