Help! Valve cover gasket connector broken!!!!

This afternoon while I was driving in town my truck started missing and cutting out. So I knew that there is one connector that some idiot broke the snap part off of at some point, and sure enough it was unplugged.

I plugged it back in and it runs fine, but I have to go to Memphis in the morning and I know that it will come unplugged every few miles. Is there a temporary fix to keep it plugged in???

Thanks in advance!!!!

Electrical tape. Is the rubber seal still on the connector? That seal should keep it from coming loose. It is on my truck at least!

I tried the electrical tape, didn't last very long.

It does still have the rubber thingy, it kept it in for about 11,000 miles, but I guess it doesn't want be nice anymore.

Thanks for the help!

Any more ideas??

A short piece of wire strategically wrapped is about your only option if tape didn't work. The more permanent fix is to order a harness repair pigtail, disassemble it, and use the plastic connector on your factory harness.

duct tape?? Maybe mod a quick bracket to mount somewhere else and push against the connector to hold it in??

Thanks guys!

I used a couple zip ties to hold it for now, and I am going to order a new pigtail etc.

Thanks again!

I've used a zip tie on mine for about 5 years. Too cheap and/or too lazy to fix it right.
IH has a kit that replaces the plastic housing, not too expensive and not too bad of a job. I've done a few. You can also just change the whole pigtail, but the IH kit is cheaper and is enough to do 2 clips if I remember.

Good. I feel better now. I've got zip ties holding my 42 pin connector in place since the plastic tab was broke.

I guess that means I've finally embraced new technology. I don't have any bailing wire in my truck or any fuses covered with a cigarette wrapper.

Yes, zip ties are the new bailing wire!

I'm pretty sure you stole that idea from me!
