Can I get away with RTV gasket maker?
I have the oil pan, intake, oil cooler/filter adapter and valve covers all off of my V10.
I will use a new gasket for the oil cooler. The intake gasket will get reused becuase its pretty easy to change if it leaks, and its 50 bucks.
What I am wanting to do is use RTV on the valve covers, oil pan and timing cover.
Smart way to save some cash or will this just come back to bite me with leaks?

Bill,
I think you're headed down a slippery slope using RTV sealer. Most of these gaskets are very difficult to get to if they leak and they're not that expensive
Rock Auto
Timing cover gasket $26 bucks
Oil pan gasket $26 bucks
Valve cover gaskets $60 bucks
I don't think the risk is worth the reward...don't do it!

My experience with RTV (by itself, no gasket) is that it is usually great for a while, but eventually tends to weep.
A very thin film on quality gasket material tends to seal forever.
The valve covers should have come with re-usable rubber gaskets, as does the intake ports. NO sealant on those!

Bill, all of the Modular gaskets that have the Nitrile rings for sealing are reuseable. BUT.....there are a few locations that I have found over the years that you do NOT want to reuse, and may still want to use a good RTV as a second line of leak preventative.
I put a thin coating of Ultra-Black on the oil pan gaskets on both sides before install. Pulling the darn engine back out because the oil pan is seeping is not any fun, and since I started doing that-there have been absolutely no leaks. The Oil filter adapter-USE A NEW GASKET. Trust me. The plastic gets brittle over time, and although the sealing O-Ring will be good, the plastic "backer" body can blow out making a helluva mess. It only takes seconds to drain 7 qts of oil out of a modular that way.
The timing cover and cam covers-reuse the gaskets as long as they aren't torn or otherwise damaged.
