Hello all,

I am about to replace an improperly installed leaking driver side valve cover gasket on my 03 Explorer V6.

I have the procedure down in my head and am ready to start.

One question I have surrounds the spacers that come with the Fel-Pro valve cover gaskets.


Since the current gasket is improperly installed, I don't want to assume the spacers were correctly installed.

Where and how are the spacers installed?

I have never replaced the valve cover gasket on my explorer so please take my advice with a grain of salt. When I replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 90 bronco and 66 mustang you could buy a gasket that was once piece that had built in washers which are what im assuming you mean by the spacers. This was a more expensive gasket but its well worth it. I hope that this helps.

 

I've replace many 302 and 351 W valve cover gaskets. They are very easy.


The SOHC cover seems to have locations for spacers that are independent of the gasket.

I hope they are fool proof with respect to how they go since I can find any instructions or pictures on how to install the spacers. The gasket part seems pretty straight forward.
