'48-'50 F1 front axle location.
Ok I have searched and searched so now I'm going to ask for help.
I am wanting to know if the F3 and F1 front axle location is the same.
I thought I have seen diagrams on here before with measurements in relation to the frame.
Getting ready to mount my Jag IFS and want to get it right the first time.
If ya got a measurement from a certain point on the frame that would help me out. I just want to be sure before I take one step forward and two steps back...

The axle bumper is over the top of the axle. (a good place for it. ) But relocating the axle centerline for better 'tire in the hole' locating is primarily a 53-56 thing. I don't believe the 48-52 have the same factory-screw-up offset issue.

Front Axle
I did some looking through my "journal" for front axle measurements.
I used an aftermarket MII; and installed it at stock location on my F1
from centre of front cab mount to centre of front axle = 17 3/4"
from centre of second cab mount to centre of front axle = 29 7/8"
I also noted that the distance from stock front engine mounts to centre of front axle was 5 1/2" (not sure if this was a centre to centre measurement or to front of axle)
Hope this helps

52 Merc: Thanks for the correction on 48-52 centerline. The reason I mentioned the snubber: It sounded like Jeff had a clean frame and after someone said the F-1 and the F-3 was the same, I thought if your frame was level and you dropped a plum bob line thru the center of the snubber bolt hole, that would be the center line for any after market suspension axle. I would make sure the snubber holes were the same distance from several points on both frame rails. This would be if you didn't have modification measurements. chuck

Good question Ross. For the after market and clip people they would need a center point because most would be using coil springs. How much could it move? I always thought it was just a bumper to help prevent bottoming out of the axle against the frame. I never thought about the spring moving the center point. Once the front end is on the ground the weight wouldn't change like the rear does when weight is added to the bed or does it.... More comments appreciated. chuck
