Class III hitch with HD tow package?

I'm going to look at a 2007 EL with the HD tow package tomorrow. I pulled up the window sticker and it sure does show the HD tow package as an option but also shows Class III hitch under the 'Functional' section.

I don't understand the difference between Class III and IV so I went searching and found this article - Tow hitch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

If the Expedition I'm looking at only has a Class III hitch, how can it get close to the 8700lb max towing capacity?

Will I have to change the hitch or am I missing something?

So the functional portion of the window sticker is the standard equipment, if you look at the right side it says optional equipment which means that if it has the HD tow package then this supersedes the standard class III and now has a class IV hitch.

You smell what I am cookin'?

Here is a link to some discussion, http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/67...xpedition.html

Just looked at mine which has the HD tow package and it is a Class IV hitch.

My HD tow '07 hitch. The sticker only covers the hitch. Maximum towing capacity depends on several other items.
