It can but local emissions laws need to be considered. What year truck are you thinking about doing this to? What trans does it have?

Swap over a carburetor intake manifold and a carb, pretty much it. If you don't have emissions or your truck is old enough you don't have to worry about the hard to find old emissions systems on these. In my state (ct) vehicles 25years and older are emissions exempt.

thanks for the info, the only other thing i can think of is a electric fuel pump. a friend told me a long time ago that you can not change over a 4.9 strait 6 to a carb , i can not remember why. but thats why i asked about a 302. thanks again

i just got done swapping my 351w to carb. It is pretty neat i like it, alot better, but that might be because my fuel injection never ran right. I will be doing a write up on it pretty soon.

Make sure you put some sort of pressure regulator on otherwise that fuel injection 30-50psi pump will really overflow the needles on any carb as they run a 4-8psi most.

If he is using the fuel system in the truck he is putting it into all he needs is a electric pump made for carburetor psi.

It can be switched over. You'll need a electric fuel pump, or a regulator if the truck its in was efi. Also need a carb intake and a carb. The EFI heads have slightly higher compression ratio than the carb heads which is a plus.

I was considering doing the same thing to my truck. While my 302 runs well, its feels pretty underpowered. If Im hearing you all correctly all I would need is a newer 302 out of a mid 90's Mustang or F150, then swap over my intake manifold, carb, add a new mechanical fuel pump and be all set?

You also need a timing cover with the hole for the fuel pump to mount and the eccentric on the end of the cam if you want a mechanical pump. The 300/6 fuel pumps mount on the bl;ock and the FI blocks dont have the hole for thefuel pump so you would either need an older block or an electric fuel pump

Are the low-pressure fuel pumps mounted in-tank, or on a frame rail? Would it need a return line like a FI system?

I can't believe no one has mentioned the IGNITION system.

The EFI ignition system relies on computer inputs. You will have to run a stand-alone ignition system if you switch to a carburetor, which means you will need a new distributor and ignition module, unless you run points.

I am assuming this is a typo? The first year for fuel injection was in 85 on the 302's only.
