Gotts mod anyone?

I used the search and it didn't turn up much.

My wife drives a '04 EB Expy with a 5.4L, this E10 gas in DFW has killed her mileage. So in my quest for more MPG I am going to try and tweak her truck.

Has any tried the Gotts mod on an '04 or similar Epxy? Will it even work? I am in the sandbox and I will be home in a few days. I don't recall if the intake mates to the fender well. I had her send pics, but she didn't understand what I was needing a pic of.

If so, did you notice any improvement in power or mileage?

Thanks in advance!

As long as your new pipe isn't so long it hits the fender and chokes the engine, it looks like a cheap upgrade.

I did the mod on my '99. I can't say I noticed much difference. My mpg on a recent road trip to Denver and back, through the mountains, was 19 mpg. Speeds were approximately 70 mph, tires at 45 psi, Gotts intake mod and a Magnaflow muffler. Milage before and after the mod was about the same, though I didn't do a before and after on this road trip.

There isn't going to be much, if anything, you can do to improve milage in a worthwhile way. Driving habits have the largest effect.

I would love 19mpg. With 10% ethanol her mileage is down from 18 to 14.

There is more to it than ethanol. My highway number is with 10% ethanol because it is required in Colorado.

I would lean more towards high ambient temps that drag efficiency down, along with possibly more use of the AC?

Are you sure you haven't been getting gas with ethanol in it previous to this? It has been extremely widespread for at least 20 years now.

Ethanol as far as I know has been req in the DFW area during the summer for the last 2 yrs. We moved back up to DFW last winter, prior to that we lived in a smaller town that, as far as I know, did not have E10. There are a few gas station out in the rural areas that don't have E10.

So to answer your question, I'm pretty sure E10 is new to her Expy.

Well, God Bless Texas! You boys held out for long time. I am originally from Minnesota, land of corn and ethanol. They have had 10% in the gas for at least 20 years as I mentioned. Just like where you are it starts out in urban areas to "prevent smog", and soon spreads throughout the state. I had a station here in rural SW Colorado that up until three months ago had a "no ethanol" sign posted. I paid an extra 25 cents a gallon when filling my snowmobile just to avoid the stuff.

It is politics and we are stuck with it. I am surprised you lost that much mpg. I can see some, maybe 1-2mpg, more than that though I still say is probably driving conditions.

I was surprised to get 19 with my truck. I ran the AC the whole day too. The mountains tend to give you an extra mpg or two depending on the vehicle, at least mine always have. I typically get 13-14 in town and 16 on the road.
