New User with a What is this?

I've had my truck for a few months and I've learned and learned from this forum, and gained confidence to do a few little jobs so far. This forum is great. I've got a 2001 CC 4x4, with 220k miles.

Today I was working on the fuel bowl with Guzzle's o-ring replacement kit due to a leaky drain valve. I've got something wrong with a loose sensor that I don't know what it is.

It's located just underneath the fuel bowl, on the driver's side, there is a sensor attached to a horizontal rod (is this on the HPOP?). The wires for this sensor join the fuel heater/water sensor cable within 2 inches. The horizontal rod is threaded on the end, but I don't have a nut on the threads to hold the sensor in place.

Anybody know what that thing is?

sounds like your looking at the IPR which is just to the right of the back side of the fuel bowl. Do a search for "injector pressure regulator" lots of info on it.

Thanks guys. After looking at those pictures you're right. It's the IPR.

Mine is hanging on the rod from the HPOP without anything to keep it from sliding off towards the firewall. The sensor wiring seems to hold it in place.

Post #11 really showed it to me. I'm missing the spacer and that cheap end cap.

I haven't noticed anything odd about the engine. Is there an issue with how mine is right now?

Thanks Ron. I missed your post before I replied.

Does anyone know of a source for that spacer and tin washer?

If not, I guess I'll get a stack of washers and a nut to fit it. I'm interested to see if anything runs differently. That IPR is a mystery to me.

Sure, just go back to Guzzle. Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines

But also grab a flash light and look around in the valley of your motor. There's a good chance the parts are laying there on top of the motor just covered in gunk so they're hard to see.

If you can't find the pieces, just put a plastic zip tie on the rod to keep the coil from sliding back, unexpectedly, until you get them.

I did put a tie wrap to hold the IPR in place. I didn't notice any difference with the engine. The IPR has been staying on the rod by itself for as long as I've had the truck.

I guess that there is a coil in the IPR that pulls the relay within the HPOP, and when this coil is activiated my IPR was moving itself into place. The tiewrap should work fine until I place my next order with Bob.
