Rattling noise from under the truck...

... this noise comes and goes randomly and does not seem to affect the mechanics of the car. Anyone ever heard it before?

I have the same kind of rattle around 1800rpm. It sounds like a loose heat shield is rattling under the truck.

anyone have a fix? Definitely sounds more like the heat shield as it only does it at low speeds/rpms. If it was the cat it would do it all the time correct?

Have someone u really trust rev it up while u are under it.Put parking brake on for them....i worked on a heatshield that it came loose at the weld so got a glob of jb weld and shoved it in the grove then put some vise grips to hold while it dried.I know there is an easier way to do it but it worked.

Mine had that noise. either use a hose clamp to resecure it or remove it.

Check the heat shield at the Y pipe. You will have to pull on it to find the loose spot, I used a hose clamp to fix mine a few years ago and no problems since.

My heat shield at the Y pipe was making the exact same noise. I cut it off with a cutoff wheel and no problems since. You can use a rubber mallet with the truck off and cool and tap the entire exhaust system and listen for the sound. Can be a little frustrating at times to find them!
