I have in my driveway a 1987 F250, 4x4 Lariat with 6.9 and ZF5, also has a banks turbo. Less than 73,000 actual mileage. My dad bought this truck new in June of 87. I've worked on it a few times and know exactly what the specs are.

really?
Hi,well, thats interesting,as I worked for Ford in thoses years, the ZF was a oct 87 intro to the ford light duty truck line as was the 7.3,replacing the 6.9 and T-19 in the F250 HD and F350.This was also the first year of the F450, standard with the 7.5 460, and the "new" ZF 5 speed.
You would then have the ONLY one, maybe it was a 1 off. I have done the conversion several times, usually on 4wd's . To be sure, your door tag could be decoded. I dont have the chart anymore, but I am sure someone here can help. But,what ever truck you find, you can make it what you want,as the parts are still plenitful,at least out here on the west coast. Hi Scott, If you look at the pre power stroke forum, there are several members that have an 87 with the ZF5, 6.9 idi and either 4:10 or 3:54/55 gear ratios. Glow plugs are electronic, old style water separator, new or 7.3 style oil filler neck.
I remember the sales person making the statement that the trans was a "new prototype" from Germany which I thought was odd.
Dad wasn't planning on buying a truck but he was up from Ca. and we were on our way to Lake Powell. The 428 in his 75 highboy barreled the cylinders and was spewing oil out the tailpipe. Decided on a new truck and wound up with the 87.

Bump
Is the information in this thread accurate? I just test drove and am buying an 87 f350 6.9 zf5. I can ask and add Vin to the thread if you think it would help. Maybe I was misled. Here are pictures
