BYE BYE DIESEL, HELLO V-10!

4 trips in my 6.0 and 4 breakdowns! I'm done! Selling my EB 6.0 and buying an 05 V-10 today guys! I have just had it with this last EGR Cooler/oil cooler repair! 80K miles and I have done maintenance galore on all items for my 6.0 religiously?? V-10ers I have actually been swayed and am going to look at an 05 4x4 with 60K miles on it today! Anyone interested in an 04 EB with a new EGR cooler and oil cooler that is all stock PM me, I'm in AZ!

Funny thing is once you sell the diesel, you could buy the V10 outright with some cash to spare.

True true! I have just lost confidence in my Diesel Ex. I have to be able to go on 1 trip towing my trailer without something breaking and ending my trips early.

If you notice on V-10's the only problems are:
Ocassionaly COP's which is usually a boot instead of the COP.
Exhaust studs.
Once in a blue moon a fuel pump.
Alt. goes bad at about 80,000 same as a diesel.
Plug threads on up to 2002 models very uncommon on later models.
Oil change 6 quarts and 1 filter.
Fuel mileage 10.9 to 12.3 City and 13.7 to maybe 15 Highway.
I have a V-10 and am happy. 400 mile trip 44 gallons of gas or 1 tank.

Now as a diesel owner "you know the rest of the story".

Well if the HG's go out on my 6.0 that's another $3K, HPOP, injectors, turbo and on and on! This thing is going to be a money pit in which I don't have the funds to throw at it!

As I have always said:
Its miles per-dollar not miles per-gallon on any car or truck you own. The over all expense is the bottom line.

I'm new to the Ex/V10. Could you elaborate on these a bit?

Thanks,
Tony

Not to hijack the thread but:
A miss fire is usually contributed to a bad COP Coil on Plug. The coil has a boot on the bottom of it that goes on the spark plug. If the boot gets dried out cracks or whatever the spark can go through the boot and ground out against the cylinder head. This will caise a mis-fire on that cylinder. The standard repair is replace the COP when all it needs is a boot, about 4.50.
One way to check the boot is look for a grey or brown streak on it.
Squeeze it together and look for cracks in the rubber. If either exists then replace the boot.
Welcome aboard Tony!
You will love this site.

Welcome to the gasser side. I originally was looking for a diesel Ex and ended up buying the V10. It tows my Sea Ray 270 quite well (~10000 lbs + 1600 lb trailer) - no problems on ramps, getting up to speed or holding speed on the highway. Mileage does suck - but just using MPG as the criteria would have taken me about 6 years to break even since the diesels were 4-5k more in my area than the V10s. I'm getting about 11-11.5 around town and 14-14.5 on the highway - I'm not easy on it at all. It's quite, no smells, no EGR problems, no 15 quart oil changes, no 15k fuel filter changes, etc.... You'll get plenty of other opinions but welcome to the V10 'dark side' :-) It's a great engine and you still have a great truck around it! After all it's still a Ford!

Well put. Never could understand the fascination with diesels. Must be a testosterone thing cause it certainly isn't cheaper to operate.

Scott, I don't think the 05's had much of a plug spitting problem.
