Exclamation Some advise for a new 5.4L owner ???

Hi there, I'm about to buy a FX4 with a 5.4L and just 10K miles on it, I have to recognize all my experience in F150's ends on the 1996 model, then any advise relative to know problems, service, what to do and what don't will be appreciated.

Thanks in advanced

A huge ford fan here but the FX4 model is a waste of your money, the biggest part of the fx4 is the damn skid plates which are now sold through several mag. sources. Oh i forgot that you get the little decals on the bed. I had a friend that took a 03 XLT and bought the skid plates, decals/emblems and what ever then sold the truck as a FX4 and made a huge profit. Sure this is wrong to do to people but with all the different models of the F series that are made, the FX4 is one of the worst for being what number it is from the bottom, it doesnt really have as big as upgrades as a lariat just to name one for an example. If you buy it, sure it will still be a nice ride but you money spent on it will not get what you can on a different model.

Aside from making sure you get the plugs changed by 60K miles I don't know of any problems with the later 3V's.

Thanks guys for the input. Here in Venezuela we are having a terrible situation with Mr. Chavez... since he is not giving US currency to Ford Motor Venezuela, they are limited in the amount of parts they can import from USA, then they can offer just a few F150 models. Right now there are just the XL, Lariat, FX4, Explorer and a couple of compact models

It's probably more a case of the "cop" to spark plug boots needing replacement. They become deformed from heat after many miles and never quite reseal properly after a spark plug change. It's good practice to change the boot's when doing a spark plug change. They're fairly inexpensive and save later misfiring problems.

Yes if a COP gets wet it can very well get fried, IMO there is no reason to wash the engine and take the chance of burning out 1-8 COP's.
