5.4 Triton Missing?

I have an 1998 E-350 super duty with 180,000 miles. I haven't had one problem with this engine till now. The "Service Engine" light came on and stayed on. I had it scaned and the code was for the "EGR valve". I replaced with a new valve and cleared the error. After driving about 20 miles the "Service Engine" light came on. The scan code was for the "EGR valve" again. That is the history next is the trouble with the engine.

The engine runs nice and smooth on till high RPM's or heavy load than it seems like it starts to miss. If I keep the van in park and slowly push down on the gas pedel the engine runs good till RPM's get higher, than it sounds like it starts missing and I can smell raw gas in the air. When I'm driving 50 or less the engine runs great, but when I get up to 55 or more it starts missing.
I just don't know what else to check at this point. Please help if you can.

Thanks Dennis

Please post the exact code. I'm betting P0401 which is usually a bad egr sensor not valve.
How old are the spark plugs? Sounds like you may have a bad plug or coil to plug boot.

Thanks

Thanks LxMan1, it was the EGR senor. I need to get my own scanner. The plugs have 180,000 miles on them. Ford don't give you much room to work in this van.

Expect at least 4 hours on a plug change. Time to do them bad. I used a short and long extension and a u-joint, 3/8 drive. This is definitely the hardest vehicle I've had to change plugs on but if I can do it, so could most others.
