1983 Ford Ranger slave cylinder question

Hello, I have a 1983 Ford Ranger that had a leaky slave cylinder. All my fluid leaked out of the boot, and my clutch obviously went out. I was in a hurry, and did not notice the cotter pin on the part where you connect it to the hydraulic line (Nipple? Idk what to call it) so I cut it with my pocket knife. I have a replacement cylinder, but now cannot get it back onto that line. The line is still plenty long enough to reach, so that isn"t an issue, I just can"t get that nipple or whatever back on that line. I have read all over the net on installation, but haven;t found anything to specifically answer this question. I desperately need the truck to run again. Thanks, Steve
