so i went to the junkyard today...
so i went to the junkyard hear in town for the first time today and holy crap! Talk about some cool stuff. they had one whole section that started at about 1960 and got older clear back to the forties. lots of chevies, several 57-60 ford pickups, lots of 40s pickup cabs. I mean this place was like a candy store and i was the kid. I was helping a friend pull some parts so i didn't get to look around much but ill try to get pictures in the next couple of days.

REally cool. I miss the days of my youth, when I could prowl through some really "junk yards in the woods etc". Where I live now, those places are illegal lol. There aren't all that many "old time" junkyards in my general area-non in fact--well maybe one small one. We've had a lot of pressure on salvage yards regarding environmental issues etc. They're mostly gone around here. Loved hanging out a Dick & Jim's when I was a kid in Salem Oregon in the early 60's. Even it is gone now. Big housing development I guess.
Hope you get hold of one of those 40's cabs. I like those narrow early cabs.

Ditto. A few years ago I did a backroads junkyard adventure tour to Arizona and back. One of the places I wanted to see was Hidden Valley in Arizona. I had my Mapquest directions in hand, and laptop at the ready. I looked and looked, asked directions a couple times, even made a wrong turn and ended up in I'm sure an illegal immigrant camp (got the heck outta there fast). I then learned the yard had lost its lease to a new highway or something and had been moved. When I found the new location I was told that most of the old iron had been crushed, and what was saved wasn't anything special. Urban development is why places like Wyoming, Montana, and the Dakotas are the best places to find old iron anymore. Stu

yea the place is in laramie wyo which doesnt help most of you out very much. i might be going out there today to try to find a battery for my truck as the one just went out in my truck and i need it to go to work at 5 am tomorrow. Oddly enough i didn't see any bonus builts or effies but then again i didn't look to close. quite a few 57-60s tho and one 57 custom cab with a very nice chrome grill. My dream truck is a 38-39 ford so i can make it look all stock except put a 292 y-block in it.
