How far away from the truck will the electric locks unlock when the remote transmitter unlock button is depressed? Where did you mount the antenna for the keyless receiver??

I did exactly what you are talking about to my 92 about 5 years ago. I came across an awesome deal from Bulldog Security (end of line clearance) and picked up a remote starter with keyless entry for $30.00. The truck already had power locks. The only issue was purchasing the relay to interface to the door locks. It is not a standard relay and is infact designed to work almost completely opposite so they got me for that which was about $90 once it was shipped to my home. But for $120.00 I got a remote starter, keyless entry with some security features. It has never failed and works from about 300 feet from the vehicle. Or when at my friends apartment from 18 stories up in the winter?
The whole project took about 3 hours to complete and their website has schematics for all makes models and years (atleast back then it did) telling you where to find the wires that you needed.

There is a mudule (about 2" x 2") that has two antennas about 5 inches long coming out of either side. I have placed it just behind the review mirror at the top of the windshield. It is about the highest point you can place it.
The only times that I do not seem to get the distance out of it is in a crowded mall parking lot. Otherwise at work, home, etc. distance is not a problem. From my friends appartment it is straight line of sight to the parking lot and of course nothing in the way to block or weaken the signal.
