Cranks and cranks then starts but does not run

I have a 94 Ford E150 I just bought. I can get it started and it is smooth running until I step on the gas and shuts off. If I do it slowly it will rev up but not very much and again it shuts off I also smell a strong gas smell while trying to start it. I was able to drive it and was able to get to 40 mph but it would jerk and want to stall. The owner said he put a new fuel pump in last year but that did not fix the problem so he gave up. I hear the fuel pump doing its thing so it is at least running. Not sure where to start? Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Bob

Pull the vacuum line off the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) and see if there is any fuel in the vacuum hose. If there is replace the FPR, it is bad.
If it vacuum line is dry either you have stuck open fuel injector(s) or a bad computer.
Could be that the injector wire(s) are shorted to ground.

If I was betting I would bet on a bad PCM Computer.

Been out of the loop for a while. Hey Bill thanks for the reply. I did check the fuel regulator and replaced it but no change. As I mentioned it does start and idles fine until you press the accelerator to fast and it wants to die. Some time it will start right up and others it won't. I found and pulled out the computer and checked if it looked or smelled burnt but it does not. Who tests these do you know? I can send mine in and they will test it for 65.00 or replace it for 125.00 just hate to spend the money like on the pressure valve and find out its good. How do I check the stuck open injector? I appreciate all your help!!

Bob
