ELC Coolant, where to buy, which is best?

Basic question I know, but I'm tired of doing the test strips and adding the DCA. I also need to change the lower radiator hose, so I'll prolly just do them all and put in a new thermostat too. I'm just asking does Walmart or Auto Zoo have this stuff? I don't recall seeing it before. Is one brand better than another? I could just go to the IH dealer in my town I suppose. But I'm not in a rush and won't be doing it any time soon, the green stuff in it is good and I just added a bottle of additive. But want to start gathering what I need, so I can wait if ordering it and having it shipped is an option to get what I need or if it's cheaper.

jwhitetail is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Evans npg coolant is the best, never have to do it again, no additive's, you just have to make sure you get all the water out. That's what i use.JMOP

Delo

I used the Delo ELC from my local International dealership, was 16.50 or so per gallon for concentrate. Picked up 20 gallons of distilled water at Walmart to flush things out with. Was under 80 bucks for everything, not a bad deal, and that Delo is essentially lifetime coolant, 750k miles.

Never mind, I'm an idiot; I never thought about a Cat dealer and there's one a couple miles from my house. The light bulb clicked on as I drove by it a bit ago that they have what I need. $23/gallon for concentrate tax included.

Any true heavy duty Extended Life Coolant will do ya, but in my opinion, based strictly on how many miles it's good for (800,000 miles as is, 1 million miles with their extender), I believe the "best" ELC is the Chevron Delo ELC. But like I said, any HD ELC will do just fine.

I'm not a big Evans fan for our 7.3's since Evans is a pressureless coolant and our system is meant to run with pressure. Plus, there has been some reported issues with 7.3L owners who have switched to Evans, and then experienced higher than normal coolant temps. It's rare, but I have read reports on other forums.

That Cat ELC is good stuff, Keith.

I'm agreeing with Stewart on the Delo ELC, but i'm a Delo fan. When I did mine I took a clean 55 gal. drum with lid to a water supplier and filled it up two five gallon buckets at a time. Think I paid $.38/gal for distilled. Of course I was doing 2 trucks so I needed alot.

Another CAT ELC user here Keith, good stuff, changed mine out at the 100,000 mile mark. I just picked up some Fleetguard or rite, can't remember ELC as a emergency top off bottle, they were out of Cat consentrate and told me the FG-FR was compatable, both are red coolaid so I got it. Their all good ELC's mentioned above but don't know anything about the Evan's to comment.
