Talking 92 F150 5.0 HO swap

Ok I know that this swap has been beat up with questions on this site but here goes again..

Im wanting to know what all has to be done to take a HO long block and install it into my 92 f150. ive read that all i have to do is install my truck intake and change the firing order to match that of the cam and ill be good to go since i believe that uses bank to bank injector firing??? ive also read that i would need a new computer out of a mustang or a 351 truck to make my injectors fire in the same order as the timing.

also the issue with the flexplates truck 302 has a 28oz and the HO has a 50oz will the 50oz flexplate work with the E4od.

any advice on mods, cams, heads,TBs to use

o yea also what about the water pump being different???? REV FLOW

You got some of it right. All 5.0's after 1981 have a 50oz imbalance so the flexplates on these two would be the same.. if they had the same transmissions. That's not a certainty though so you need to use the one from your truck.

The only wiring changes necessary are the sparkplugs which need to go to the HO order, the batch fired SD EFI in these trucks works fine with both firing orders.

The HO and truck 5.0 longblocks are identical except for the cam and pistons so this is largely a waste of time unless your motor is done. If your motor has life left then simply put a HO cam in it and you'll have the HO power output.. which is more top end HP with less bottom end TQ. And all upgrades from here on do more of the same so if you haven't done so already start saving up for some gearing.

my truck is a 4x4 with 3.55 ratio would you suggest going to 3.73 or making the jump to 4.10. so really it is a better bet just to install a decent cam and try and find some decent heads truck has 160xxx still runs pretty good i was just wanting to freshin it up a bit. but this is my daily driver and sometime toy hauler.

waste of time...

a 302 H.O. swap in a truck that your using as a DD and toy hauler is a waste. the best thing to do is swap a 351W in, and swap a 351W computer in also... easiest best, most useful swap to do...

youll get about the same mileage, better power, and easier towing, and more towin capability...

the 5.0 intake wont fit on the 351W. its best to find a complete 351, throttle body to oil pan... easiest thing to do..

as far as the ECU goes... yes or else you will have that 5.8 leaning out bad higher in the rpms...

and you will have to have the plug wires ran for the 5.8 firing order.

Depends upon tire size, with stock tires you want 3.73's for good towing power, step up to 4.10's with 31's and 4.56's for 33's.

More cam and a better heads will certainly increase output but as stated the increases will be biased towards the upper rpms for the most part so that's why more gearing really isn't an option with this motor.
