rear axle wear on 98 f150

i was wondering how much wear is acceptable on rear axle, outer bearing? I am replacing the outer bearings and noticed a slight groove, which i thought was machined to fit the bearings, could this be the case, or is it wear?

there is no lip on the axle, it is smooth and is the inner race. Can you measure it with a mike ?

the axle is the inner race. If you have more than a few thousandths, i would be worried you are in softer material, will do damage to the roller in the bearing, and will cuase the seal to leak oil doe to excessive movement of the axle.
