Wow you went to town on this one. Was it so bad that nothing was salvageable? Looks like some of the support lumber is rotten too. I guess once you started one thing lead to another,....was alcohol a factor? LOL

Pressure wash the inside , let it dry, toss in a sleeping bag and pillow and your ready for Arthur!!

I just made arrangements to pick up the material for the new inside, it is the coolest thing you have ever seen,

It's call Stabilized Aluminum Foam or SAF for short, basically it looks like a sponge but is as light as air and as strong as plate steel.

Heat, moisture and cold do not affect it so there will never be a rotten wood problem in this trailer ever again.

About a 1/3 the weight of plywood of a similar size.

The stuff I got is seconds and most times would just have been melted down and reused for new Aluminum foam but the fellow I dealt with did me a favor and sold it to me at an acceptable price.

I think he's interested in how it turns out so I promised I'd take lots of pictures and bring it by for them to have a look at.

As for the Hot Tub it will be hitched to the back of the Beachcomber

 

Where's the hot tub in yours Frank? I think your camper is actually bigger than Rick's trailer...

 

When I park next to Franks Palace the Beachcomber is sure to look like a "Relic"

 

Just thought I'd pop some pictures of our progress.































Now onto the top portion and insulation installation.

 

Your doing a fine job there Rick. I haven't seen the blue lumber before, I take it that it's mold/moisture resistant? Still aways to go to get it finished. Are you going to re-use any of the old interior? as templates at least or are you going with a new layout?

Since the beachcomber is empty why not make IT the tow-able hot tub? plug a few holes and she'll hold water! Hinge the top half and we can make two hot tubs!

I did some minor work on the "Palace". I ditched the recirculating toilet as the valve needed replacing and parts were more expensive than a port-a-potty. I closed off the waste outlet and redid the grey water plumbing. Also painted the shower stall white with that fusion paint for plastic. Now I can take out the port-apotty and actually have room to shower!
Replaced all the foam to a firmer one and washed the cushion covers. Will look at new cushion covers next year.
Also welded the rear bumper brackets back on as the previous owner hacked them off. I got rid of the 4" square tube bumper though and went with an aluminum step. Still work to do with the step but I picked up some stuff at Barrie that I can work with.
I took it out camping last week and noticed some other things that need tweaking but it was nice to be out of the rain and off the ground when sleeping! and it takes some getting used the confined space when cooking but I liked it.
The fridge doesn't work that great. It gets cool but not cold so I'll have to figure out the magical chemistry of a three-way frigde. I saw what a new one goes for .... not cheap. Not sure I want to play with amonia though?

The F250 was great, no issues. I was tempted to drive on to the scales with it but knowing how much it weighs with the fresh water tank full, 200+ litres of fuel and all the rest of my crap would scare the hell out of me. I calculated the mileage and it did 12mpg which I think is not bad considering that I get the same mileage driving to work everymorning on the 401 with no camper! I think with the big 460 it just a matter of run time, if it's running it's burning fuel LOL wether I sit and idle in stop and go traffic or roll down the hiway at 60mph with 4000lbs on board makes no difference.

Still a few things to do to make it more presenatble for Arthur but I'll take it the way it is if I have to.

My problem is I always want it done 110% and and I always seem to try and get it done in a in too short of a timetable

We filled all the air gaps in the rigid foam with crack&gap filler spray foam I'll let it dry overnight and trim it down tomorrow.

 

Do the whole thing with spray foam, paint it and have that "cave dwelling " look to it?

Don't knock yourself out trying to get it finished for Arthur. It's not a camper show! Bring the Bronco, if the trailer keeps you out of the weather bring it too but don't worry about looks.
