1989 F-250 transmission trouble HELP
I have a 1989 F-250 with a 6 cyl. 5 speed transmission. I was driving it a couple of days ago and the reverse gear kept slipping. I had to keep pressure on the shifter to keep it in reverse. Yesterday I lost 5th gear and while I was driving in 4th gear it slipped out when I pushed the clutch in to slow down. I shifted into nuetral and could not shift back into any gear. I stopped on the side of the road and kept trying all gears and finally was able to get back into 4th gear. I drove the rest of the way home in 4th gear. When I got home I stopped the truck and was able to shift into all gears except 5th gear. I also had a clanking sound under the truck. Is this a transmission problem or is it a gear box problem? Or is their even a gear box? As you can probably tell I do not know a thing about vehicles. But I did hear someone say in the past that a manual transmission has a gear box. Please Help the mechanically inept. Thank you in advance.

I was having the same exact problem with my truck, then it just stopped working all together.
your tranny is dying bro.
My truck is gonna be sitting for quite a while on my end, i don't have the cash, and I've decided to sell my 302 out of it, and scrap my M5R2 (same trans as yours) until I can afford a 351 and a new ZF trans.
sorry to leave you bad news.
