high oil temp on 6.0

what will cause high engine oil temp in the 6.0

Welcome to FTE

How high is the oil temp? Do you know the temp difference between the coolant and the oil? If it constantly exceeds 15 degrees your oil cooler is bad, as Rick said.

Coolant wouldn't stay in the system at 250, it would be blowing steam, so sounds like the oil cooler is plugged up.

Yeah, 250 sounds high to me. +1 on the oil cooler.

You're on borrowed time with the oil cooler. I'd get it replaced ASAP.

250 is way to high, most likely burnt the oil by now.. replace the oil cooler asap as said and change the oil and coolant. Along with a vc.9 flush.

While I agree that he needs to zero in on the cooler, intermittant 250 deg oil isn't the end of the world, especially for synthetics.
Also, it is important where the sensor is for the oil, post-cooler or pre-cooler. Your engine sees 250 deg oil more than you'd like to know with a turbo.

Make sure you oil pressure gauge is operating as it should before spending a lot of loot.

True; I was taking it as running steady at 250. ....
