Window tint?

With my truck being a diesel,I don't have to worry about inspection here in Jersey. I want to use the darkest tint. Whats the best to use or should I have it done? I've done it before on my 72 Camino.

If I remember, here in Ohio, 35 % on front sides, and as dark as you want, in the rear. Check with your locals.

I also used tint that had a slight greenish hint, because my truck is dark green. That really set it off.

If there are no legal requirements for light transmission, go as dark as you want. However, if you drive at night, you may wish to use something 15-30%. Consumer and installer grade tints are different animals most of time. I want to say that the rolls you buy at wallmarts/ect are in the 1.5-2mill range while professional levels are closer to 5mill. I lean toward the professional grade films which are thicker and heavier.

For the safety of everyone around you, don't sacrifice visibility for looks. I had 5% on a car once, and couldn't see out at night well enough so I stripped it off. That's about as stupid as putting taillight covers on your rear lights that are so dark people can't even tell your brake lights are lit up.

The cops could pull you over and test it(at least that is what I was told) and the most make remove it(fix it ticket). Then look at any thing else, reson to pull you over.

I agree, we test all cars we come across with a tint meter here in LA, and seeing dark windows is great probable cause to search.

Not worried about being pulled over. My vehicle is used for my business. It represents the pride I take in my work. I have re-considered using the 5% and am switching to 20% for better visibility. Matt.

Yep cops get a little nervous when they see a car with dark windows... hard to shine that bright @$$ spotlight in your car to see if your stashing anything. That and the spotlight helps the camera on their mirrors to document everything. Ever watch cops?? every cop car has a mirror mounted cam thats how they get ya. In my state the back window can be super dark but you have to have mirrors on both sides to see behind you. Cops pay more attention to rice burners or at least they should...if cars can have fart tips why can't i have open headers?? Rather hear a healthy V-8 than a high strung sewing machine anyday. But watch the tint cause everything to do with a cop and any rules is a felony nowadays.

Thanks for reconsidering the 5%...

Also, Lvcrprts...
Open headers better than sex?
You must be having it with the wrong women!

I stopped in my local accesories shop and the owner had 20% on his truck. That looked plenty dark. I do need to see out of these windows and that'll do.

Yep 2 divorces, so now i think open headers is less of a problem then 2 ex-wives!! Least my truck will never say no. But seriously i think tinkering on my truck can be more satisfying than having a woman nag at you. Little jaded but i really like tinkering on my truck, reminds me of my dad and me being his little tool boy back in the day.

I have a 94 Ford Ranger Splash 4x4 Supercab with 5% on it.

And being honest, while it is nice during the day, at night the only benefit is when those a-holes run up behind you with those super bright HID lights on bright...otherwise I can't see anything.

Only difference with me, is that I am light sensitive so I have medical documentation in my vehicle at all times for my tint.

Also, I always make it a point to open both windows anytime I get pulled over (very rare) and turn on the super-bright dome lights so there is no question of if I am doing or stashing something. I honestly think there job is stressful enough and I don't need to add to it.

However, if I were to do it again, I would probably go lighter. I know some guys that are running double 5%...talk about dark...

I just put 2.5% on my back window(really dark) and 20% on my doors and vents. That is plenty dark as a combo because the 2.5% in the rear makes the 20% on the doors look darker. I don't have any visibility issues. And it looks pretty good.

in NJ, it is illegal to have tint on the front windows unless you have a permit from the state, and even with the permit, you will get pulled over if the cops want to be jerks.
there is a female officer in Keyport that hates window tint, and will pull you over for it every time she sees you.
she has pulled me over at least 20 times in my vehicles. she knows i have permits, but just likes to be a pain in the ***.

one of these days, i am going to complain to her chief .
