LOOKING FOR A TURBO UPGRADE?

My 97 powerstroke has 300000 miles and i think its time for a new turbo. Im already planning on getting a chip, guages and cold air intake, but not sure what turbo to go with? I was thinking about the Banks quick turbo assembly.

There are lots of things to do with these trucks before you even need a turbo upgrade.

Injectors and many other things.

I know diesel world says otherwise, but if you notice in diesel power and diesel world, they dont know much about 7.3 L diesels.

Chip, gauges, cold air intake, exhaust. Those are the first ones I would get. Your turbo is actually a pretty good turbo. It is an upgrade for the SD guys.
And NO I wouldn't get the Banks at all.
Depending on how far you want to go with your injectors will tell your turbo. Beans has a nice d66 turbo that is good up to stage I or maybe even II's. Punps alot of air.

If your turbo is not rattling or worn then leave it on and get other upgrades first.

Rebuild your stock turbo, DO NOT get the quick turbo housing. Waste of money and it'll make your exhaust temps go up a lot.

If you want a upgrade over stock I would go with a Dominator 66 turbo from Bean's Diesel which is a direct swap...

What he said. It does seem like a lot of people get rid of the smaller housing after the realize the increased temps.

My turbo has 315k miles and is still holding together despite spinning the dyno to the tune of 380hp and is beaten everyday. point is leave your turbo alone unless the wheel is all chipped up or if it has excessive play. You can make pretty decent power on your stock turbo, but eventually you will need to upgrade it so i'd say if your turbo is just worn out go for the D66 from Beans like others have suggested.

There will be oil in there with the ccv still hooked in. Look at the fins to see if they are "sandblasted" or chipped. Also just grab the wheel and see if you have play. A little side to side is ok as long as it doesn't touch the housing. Should be no in/out play

That is normal! The repair/maintenance manuals say that is normal.

I lost my turbo on a Sunday. Monday I set out to find a new one...ford was my only option....NOT!!!!!! BEANS DIESEL PERFORMANCE.COM Had me in and out by Wednesday with a Dominator 66 and acouple other little things. They also do live tunig when you buy there chip, were very fair when they did my injectors and jusy a little side note on there character.......me, being the redneck I am, keep 1k dollars behind the carpet up next to the firewall, in a little paper binder clip thing, I forgot to remove it before having they do the work....I kinda forgot about it, wife would never find it there, but it was still there after both time they have had my truck and I know for a fact they had to pull that carpet back!!!!!! Big reps for Bean's, never will I go anywhere else and it is a 2 hr drive for me!!!! Great prices too!!!!

BTW, as long as your wheel doesn't move in and out very much (16th of an inch max) and you can not see any pitting on the out edges of the fins or nicks....leave it alone, PIA job!!!!!

D66 price?!

IIRC the D66 used to be 650.00... I am finally to a point where I wanted to upgrade my turbo but it is 1125.00 now. Is it really worth that much money?
