Will a C6 bolt up to a 302?
#16
I thought so too. Took my C6 to a local tranny shop and was quoted 300 bucks for complete bench build they called it. I ask why so cheap compaired to other trans and he told me they were so simple to work on and it took very little time to do. I dropped it off that morning and he called that night and said it was ready.

Can someone with an AOD measure their transmission dipstick and tell me how long it is from where it contacts the dipstick tube to the tip? When I pulled the pan and dipstick tube on mine I found that the dipstick didn't even go past the end of the tube so obviously it's the wrong one. So far, I haven't been able to find the correct one but I have some old dipsticks I could use or get one of those you cut to fit if I knew the length.
Also, does anybody have the plug that fits over the AOD electrical switch that controls the neutral safety and back up lights with a few inches of wire attached to it. I'd like to use the switch especially for the neutral safety.
I found a speedometer housing and cable at the local parts house for my AOD with a Dolphin mechanical speedometer. It was only 18 bucks and looks like it will work out fine. It's 82 inches long and the original application is a 70 Ford pickup if anyone else if looking for a housing.

No it will not you will have to get a small block bellhousing C6 to bolt up to your 302. you might rather have a built c4. those C6 transmissions soak up close to 40 horsepower, that is alot when you are running a 302.

They actually have 2 big block c6 transmissions, the FE 352/428 big block and the Lima 429/460 plus the small block bell C6. none will swap.

First year Ford offered a C6/302 combo was in 1978 on F100/150's. Some of these trucks also came with C4's, ditto for Econolines beginning in 1979.
Thru 1978, Ford used the TRANS code of G for every F100/350 A/T. One had to know which trans came with what engine.
In 1979, Ford began using the letter K for a C6, this also applies to Bronco's and Econolines.
The TRANS code is listed separately on the Warranty Plate (thru 1980), on the Certification Label 1981 to date.
Ford stamped ID numbers on engine/transmission dipsticks.
For A/T's, the ID basic number is 7A020. The ID numbers prefix/basic number/suffix ID's the dipstick, like this example: D6AP-7A020-A.

I also have a C6 behind a 302 on my '52 F1. I did have to switch to 2.8 gears in the rear to get comfortable RPM's at highway speed.
I specifically chose the C6 because they're darn-near indestructible. As far as the horsepower-robbing, I had a 5 speed manual before and if there is any loss in horsepower I certainly can tell it from driving it.
I'm happy with the combination.
