Hey guys,

I am a huge fan of older Ford Trucks and I found this ad on Craigslist.

I keep asking myself, is this truck really worth $32,000. The restoration/upgrades seem pretty basic. Mustang II front end, bored out motor, digital dash. What are your thoughts?

Seems like a very high price to me. However, need more details. Is it a unibody style? (no gap between cab and bed). If so it's worth more but even with MKII front end, that's seems too high.

 

Stuff that would bump it up to that price range you can't really see on 4 small pictures. In my opinion it would have to be extremely well done, to the point you'd be afraid to drive it to mess something up. If it sells, it was worth it, lol.

 

Its not a unibody and I agree, there are not enough pictures to see where the value claim comes from. I see some Chrome, but for $32,000??? LOL _ I would be happy to get half that for my truck restored.

 

Well of course it worth that!! Didn't you read the ad? He has a owners manual!!!! YOU must have missed the owners manual part, that really makes it a lot more valuable.
Looks like a 15,000 truck to me at most unless he had a lot of hidden stuff.

Its only worth it if someone is willing to pay it! Seems a little steep to me also, but like said before, hard to tell from 4 pics.

Just curious, have any of you added up your costs of putting your rigs together. With the costs of parts these days and any labour he may have payed it's possible he has a lot more than $32,000 sunk into it. I'm not going to telly up all I've spent until it's finished just in case my heart couldn't take it,lol

 

regardless of what you put in it, it is still only worth what someone will pay for it. it is not an outright rare or uncommon limited production truck, so value is in the hand's of the interested parties. you could sink $20k into a yugo, but at the end of the day, find me someone who will value and want a $20k yugo. restoring and modifying vehicles is almost always a losing proposition on the money side of it, unless of course you have a name like chip foose. then you can just put a two tone candy paintjob and big rims on anything and it is worth it's weight in gold.

 

Uni Bodies were only made in 1961 to 1963. Here`s a picture of my 61 M100.

 

Better that you don’t, I am, and with no direct cash cost for the truck (engineless and via a trade) or replacement engine, trans and diff (same story) I have a pile of sheet metal and a parts room (spare bedroom) full, just over $ 16,000.00 cdn.

 

My truck is just a beater 4x4 daily driver build and I'm sure I'll have close to $15,000 in it by the time I'm done.

A well built 56 F100 big back window Custom cab in resale red. Yea if done right I think it would be worth every penny. I've seen a lot worse priced for much higher.

You are talking about one of if not the best looking truck Ford built. And it was built in a way that's not going to go out of style. It's not something with huge rims and an ugly obnoxious paint job. It's a nicely built stock appearing truck.

 

I could see it selling for that, and again, if you tally up the costs of restoration... I talked to a guy yesterday that just got done with a '79 Ford Pickup that he spent $2,000 on per year, every year for the last 15 years!!! I saw a '56 F100 on eBay a while back in resale red that claimed to have over $150,000 in restoration costs.

That's a hot looking very clean truck and it is a '56 after all. It could happen.

I would like to see the interior though.

Yeh, I just bought a 56 Big Window, volare, 9in, disc brakes all around, stroked 351W/C4, all good body & glass, tilt hood, chrome grill, driving.. good M/T tires and wheels..

needs interior work, bed wood, move gas tank. and some paint cleanup.

for 1/4 that price. less that the parts total, major labor done
I think it saved me 8000 in work & time. and it drives right now.
its a 50ft'r.. looks great from 50ft.
