What vehicle did you do it to and which wire did you disconnect? The reason I ask is the mod did exactly what you're asking for my 08 Mounty. The door chimes only for approx. 5 - 7 beeps then stops with key on and door open. It also stopped the chimes in other key positions as well but did maintain other warnings like low tire, low fuel, etc. (if that's where those warnings do come from that is, hard to tell with frequency of the chime. Talk about sound staging !)

Did I missunderstand your earlier post that it didn't stop the key-in chime with the door open for you?

I know this is all a moot point but I was just curious is all. I was just a little surprised because it worked for Tomhawk with the same vehicle, oh well.

Yes I agree, it is an awesomely clear instructional at the beginning of this thread on how to disconnect chime.

Have a good day!

THANKS! I am enjoying the silence. A couple of things I got a little tripped up on: After I removed the 3 small screws, the panel clips together on the steering wheel side and hooks together on the dash side. After you "pop" the clips- the hooks will allow the bottom panel to swing down and unhook. I won't try to explain the rubber cover for the gear shift.

I cut the wire. "No Comprende" bending tiny clips.

I have thought about this mod and think I am going to try a little variation on it. I am going to mount a small switch into the driver's door's pin switch to "fake it out" so it thinks the door is closed when I want the door open and the radio on. Then I can switch it back when I want to be reminded I left the key in the ignition.

No idea if this helps, probably not:

I leave my keys in my ignition permanently, so I hear a lot of the chime noise.

Last night I left my door open while talking to a friend and after a time (30 minutes, maybe more?) the chime stopped.

My initial thought was that the battery was dead!

OMG! You didn't listen to it for that long did you?

Did it make noise again the next key cycle?

I am willing to bet there is some sort of override. I know there are a lot of those weird "turn the key 8 times, step on the brake pedal 4 times while holding your breath" things available. I saw my dealer take it out of "transport mode" that way.

Sounds cool, you will have the pin switch open when the door is open and have a toggle switch in parallel with the pin switch so you can turn the chime back on? I like it!

It would be nice if you could disable it the same way you can disable the seat belt minder. The seat belt minder is a little more important than the door chime especially if you have the keyless entry.
And remember the code.

Well........all of this was contingent upon actually having a pin switch. There is none.

So, I am assuming it is built into the door release mechanism so next time I tear the door panel off, I will see what I can find. I may use a magnetic reed switch so I can just lay a magnet in the "secret spot" and silence the ding.

My wife nags me much louder and I have been ignoring her for more than 16 years, so the chime doesn't bother me that much.

Did it make noise again the next key cycle?
Yes.
