how can i get a replacement title for my 1946 ford truck

My aunt sold me a 1946 ford truck a few years back , The truck was titled in alabama she moved to pa and sold the truck to me she lost the title years ago ...it has a vin number and i have a notarized bill of sale from her ..i would like to get a title for it before i start restoring it but have no idea on how to get a replacement title ...does anyone have any ideas on where i would start ? thanks !

The first place would be the DMV. They can tell you what is required for your state. You've not stated where you live, so it'd be hard to tell you how to proceed for your locale. Different states may have different rules. You can also check with some local clubs or at local car shows as many others have had to deal with lost titles or bills of sale before on their own projects.

I know that here in Kansas, to get a title (not a non-highway title) you have to show up with the bill of sale and proof of insurance. Pre-'49 (IIRC) vehicles don't need to be inspected here either. '49 and up would need to go through an inspection.

Thanks Dave ...i am from Pennsylvania The title was lost years ago before my aunt moved from alabama to Pa, we provided the vin number and had the bill of sale notarized here in Pa.

Like Dave said, check with your DMV. The most difficult thing may be to trailer the truck to the DMV if it is not running. Be ready to show them the VIN number on the truck. If it is covered with crud clean it off, and a flashlight may help. Should be easy overall.

Take your paperwork to a AAA Office and they will have all the proper forms to obtain a title. DMV in PA doesn't do anything but test your driving skills and take your picture!
