Mid 80's El Capitan Motorhome
Good morning All,
I looked in the trailer towing forum but didn’t really find anything that would answer my question. My mother-in-law has this mid ‘80’s Gulf Stream El Capitan motor home with a Ford 460 and I need to do an oil change on it. Very basic question… how many quarts of oil will I be needing?
Thanks for the help.

A lot of the pickup trucks took 6 quarts, but for a motorhome, I am not sure. I believe you would be safe to put 5 quarts in it, start it, and run it for a few minutes, and then shut it off and let it sit for 10 minutes, and then check the oil level on the dipstick. Most dipsticks will say "add" when you need one more quart. I believe my diesel dipstick says "add 2 quarts", so read the dipstick carefully. You will probably be one quart low if it takes 6 quarts, and you can add the last quart of oil.
