Question 352 oil capacity

In another thread there was discussion about how many quarts of oil to top off the 352 cid. I put 5 qts in mine with new filter and dipstick showed full. If 6 qts is the norm, do I have the wrong pan on mine or the wrong dipstick? The dipstick measures 19.5 inches (not counting the handle). When I purchased the truck, the oil was almost black so I changed the oil and noticed the oil pan looked like it had a fresh coat of Ford blue paint!
Also there are no numbers on the dipstick to i.d. it. Also I put another quart in it and ran it a while and it did not spit out any oil!
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

I wonder if there is a car pan and truck pan?? If so, the car pan may be shallower by a quart.

The 1965 Owners Manual says the 352 holds 5 quarts of oil APPROXIMATELY.....theres an astrisk at the top of the column of capacities and at the bottom it says add 1 quart with filter change...

With filter a 5 qt container fills mine to the full mark. No mystery pan on my truck. I don't care what any book says; it's what's on the dipstick that matters!

I owned the same 1965 F100 w/a 352 for 44 years (bought in new in March '65), changed the oil and filter every 2,500/3,000 miles, and poured in SIX QUARTS of oil every time, EXACTLY what the owner manual says to do.

Just because some people claim 5 quarts is correct doesn't make it so.

How many of these people bought their trucks new and/or know if their trucks have the correct dipstick and/or oil pan?

Prolly none of them. They all bought their trucks years after the fact and prolly don't have a clue. And...prolly don't have an owners manual either!

Add 5 quarts when you do your oil change..... on level ground, check what the dipstick reads.... add more if you think it needs it

I agree wid Bill. I never said 5 qts. was correct, only what has worked for me for over 40 years, and on more than one engine.

I added 1 qt of motor oil to bring total to 6 qts, left exhaust was smoking like a freight train! Drained oil & filter, put in 5 qts w/ filter and no more smoke, dipstick shows full! Guess oil pan has been changed.

Don't the truck pan have the drain plug at the back of the pan and the car pan is on the side.
