another 4x4 not engaging thread...

sorry if this seems really repetitive but i can't seem to find exactly what i'm looking for. i'm working on my buddy's '99 F150 with the 5.4 and the electronically-shifted 4x4. the problem with his is electronic...at least for now. there seems to be no power at his 4x4 switch. it doesn't illuminate and when i checked the wires with a multimeter, i got nothing. i checked fuses 23 and 104 and both seemed good...i thought those were the only two that controlled the 4wd...but now i read about the illusive GEM module...so i guess i have more fuses to check tomorrow...so i guess the point of all this rambling are my few questions...

How do you single out each component? normally i'm pretty good at this, but this appears to be a complex system.

thanks in advance for answering my -type questions...

so does the power go to the TC motor first? and travel up to the switch? i figured if there was no power at the switch that was the problem...i think my buddy already replaced the t-case motor, but i'll check...i checked for power down at the plug on the motor and didn't find any...not really sure what the heck is wrong with this beast...

I'm not sure about the sequence of the voltage but nothing happened including the relays engaging, lights being on etc. with the motor being bad. It was also intermittent. I have some information about the checking the voltage at the motor and I can post that tomorrow for you.
