6V53 in a 78 F250 4X4
I have been kicking this around for a few years and slowly got some parts. I have a dana 70 king pin front axle, diesel lift spring from a super duty, f550 rear springs and hangers, got a good lead on a low mile 6v53 and a allison 545 trans. I really want a 6v53t and run twins (I have the turbos), but can't find one reasonably priced. What would I have to do to the 6v53 to handle twins and will the 545 handle it? I plan on running 3.55 gears in my axles and 37" tires. Looking for a decent highway speed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 545 is a good size for a pickup, but they just arent that strong. They can be made to handle it, but it gets spendy pretty quick. The converter not locking up is a big issue with a lot of swappers, as they create a lot of heat and excess rpm. I've seen the 6V53 on youtube, so it will fit. They're really heavy for the power they make. You could make more power with other diesels, but nothing sounds like a Detroit.
