Transmission help

I have changed my mind on motors in my 52 f2. Just came across a 292 that my late uncle pulled out of his 56 over 30 years ago. I still have the t10 and also have a 4 speed out of a 80's f150 with the shifter in the top with no linkage. I was told this was like an overdrive or a real high 4th gear. any help with what fits the 292 would be great, flywheels, clutch size, throwout bearings etc. Thanks.

I'm not 100% on the belhousing for the 292, but from the tranny you describe that is a ford TOD. Should be all aluminum and swap into any toploader application. Uses a c4 tailshaft yoke. I loved mine I had it behind a warm 390. 4th is OD(.8?) first is about 3.25. I just install a similar unit but a side shift in my 52. I wish I could have found a top shift unit.

let me know if you decide not to use it. they don;t have much value except to folks that have them or want them.. Many will say they are a weak unit so try to keep the power under 400hp and no more that 500Ft/lbs of torque... they are so weak...

See if you can find a tag or ID number on that transmission. If it has the shifter coming out the top in the center of the main body of the transmission (shift tower) it is most likely a 4 speed with direct 4th (T18, T19, NP 435). The overdrive 4 I recall had side linkage, although there was one with the shifter coming out of the extension housing that I have only heard about. If it is anything other than a T18, you might need some adaptor pieces to mate it to a 292, I am sure someone here knows more about it than I do. The normal 4 speed used on a 292 is the T98A, but some T18s can fit up.

I finally went to the barn to check the numbers on the tranny it is a t19-148. Whats my chances of mating this to the 292?
