Difference in a 49 to 53-56 long bed
Can any one tell me if there is a difference in the beds between a 49 and those built in 53-56? Understanding that the fender holes would/could be different but must still be in the same location on the bed?
Need to know ASAP as I'm going to Arizona from Canada and my buddy wants me to pick this bed up if it will work.
Thanks

They are pretty different. The fenders are different, the sides are different, the stake holes are different, but the measurements are pretty much the same.
It would probably fit, but the style would look different.
53+ beds have smooth sides, straight stake pockets and different fenders. The Bonus Build trucks have embossed sides, curvy stake pockets and their own fenders.
They look similiar, but they're not the same.
If it doesn't bother him, it should fit, I wouldn't take my word though, I don't know Bonus Builds as well, someone will chime in shortly who knows more. A long bed for a 53+ is hard enough to find, I can't imagine a Bonus Build one...

Ok, well I'm not sure about the 53 and up long beds. but I have seen some 48- 52 ford F-1 trucks with the 53-56 beds on them but those were the regular beds not the long beds.
Here is a 48 through 52 long bed (8' express bed)
I had this listed in the classifieds here but needed to make room so here it is. shameless I know

How are you planning on getting it home? If you're using another pickup you can flip the 49's bed upside down and tie it down if it doesn't fit in the bed (like if the fenders are on). Put a few 2x4s between the truck you're driving and the bed you bought. Thats how my bed was delivered for me, worked out well for him, lol don't keep anything in the bed (other than the tailgate or heavy things like fenders or whatever) as they can fly right out even if there is only a little bit of a gap... he lost an oil catch with oil in it and my bed was on his like a camper.
Just an idea, I'm use to fitting 10lbs of stuff in a 2lb bag...

I will have a wack of new stuff from Mid Fifty's in my box already, including a new box for my 55. If things work out on the way down I will also have a canopy or as you call it a "cap" on too. So the box will need to be broken down, but your idea is great not sure if I would want to haul it that way all the way back to Canada though. Those boarder guards can be difficult at times.

Ok, here's my phone number too if he needs a quicker direct way to catch me. 801-six nine four -882six
I may be hit and miss this Saturday and Sunday as I may be in and out of phone service, but if he leaves a msg I can call him back. I should be able to break it down ok. just a matter of time to do it. when are you heading back to Canada?
Cheers
Josh

Great meeting you as well Josh....I feel that I have an Allie in the US now!!
As for getting the new parts on I can't wait either! The sad thing is I still need to do a whole bunch of work on the cab lower half...needs some straightening, alignment of doors (gaps) fitment of front fenders to cowling.
The right front fender will go on this week and I will start on the hood and hood tilt kit too. As for the rest much later...the wife wants to take a vacation ..... I thought getting the parts in Arizona was that, after all it did take 5 days... almost a week of vacation in my books!
Best to keep her happy or else!!
