The problem with the newer trucks is that they are all significantly more heavy than ours. I do not understand their thinking on that.

Here is what I do for better fuel mileage. My truck averages about 16 or so mpg city highway mix.

Make sure the tires are properly inflated.
Keep the alignment in check.
I do not usually drive with windows down on the highway. Even running the AC is better.
I keep all the fluids and filters clean.
I run only Motorcraft or Autolite plugs.
I run a more free flowing exhaust with a straight through muffler.
I use the I6/460 air tube with a stock filter.
I run an MSD coil and distributor cap and rotor with 9mm Ford Racing wires.
I try not to haul around alot of extra crap in the tool box.
I drive like a grandpa alot of the time. Don't acclerate fast and let off early to coast up to intersections.

Keep the front lower valance on the truck. If you don't have one, pick one up. It helps some.

I would like to upgrade the rear gears again to 4.10, but I have 31 10.50s.

I agree with Conanski that the 5.0 trucks should all have come with 3.73 or at the very minimum 3.55.

My F250 with a 460 gets 10-12 mpg no matter how I drive it so I don't even bother anymore. Most people here would say that I drive like a grandpa but that's okay. My truck isn't going to be winning any races anyways. We got a Focus so that we don't have to drive the truck except to pick up feed or haul horses and at 30-33 mpg, it is the best modification I've done to get better gas mileage

actually the advanced timing doesnt ping a bit i have a buddy who has the same exact truck as mine and he advanced the timing on it to 16* after doing the six litre tune up and no ping on 87. I do believe ymenski on this forum has done it also.

What's the 6 liter tune-up you keep mentioning?

Mine neither. Advanced my buddy's timing to 18* or 20* and it runs fine. I measured his, not mine. Just clocked mine (87 oct) till it pinged while accelerating, then clocked it back a hair.

Not sure on this 6 litre tune, but what I have done to the truck was pretty similar. I used OEM Replacement wires, I don't think the aftermarket ones will help you see a gain on a stocker-ish ignition system. I'm gonna go look into an MSD coil here soon. My truck has been a real dog in this heat lately.

Yea i have found oem replacements work just as good as long as they can take the heat.

^ I actually put a comment on Joe's page from HPTV to see if they can possibly do a simple, quick, dyno comparo on a stock-ish 302 SBF to see if basic ignition upgrades are worth any power. Coil, Wires, MSD ignition box then they can do whatever HEI upgrade they want. I'm a member on MyPowerblock.com. I don't think we'll see this materialize, but I could at LEAST shoot him a comment or suggestion. If they're NOT going to show a gain, they probably won't plug the parts, unless they show that it improves SOMETHING with power development.

I can't find ANY gain info on these parts on the net other than the claim that the MSD box helps these engines start quicker.

THE 915PK6 does not work!!!

I read on here that you use a 91.5 belt to bypass the smog pump. With a 91.5 on the tensioner is all the way at the bottom acting as a pulley not a tensioner. I rev the motor up afew times and you could see the belt slack between the crank and the tensioner. I tried a 90.5 and there was no way on gods green earth it would fit. I got a 91 that I will pop on later. Ran out of time. Sure fit nice and tight.

yea, i knew about the acetone treatment, this thread and your post about the injector has sparked a fire to take the plung and give it a try......i would love to hear about your real world experiences with this stuff.......im not sure im ready to tackle a hydrocarbon system, but im definitely up for building a water injection set up

lol, i was afraid to bring that up because of the threat of being flamed for throwing some crack pot alternative crap out there.....glad to see im not the only free thinker around here

wouldnt you need to go with a longer belt then.....to give the tensioner room to work properly??????????????????

i would like to try it but i want to try it on a spare motor i have instead of my daily driver.
Also on the smog pump delete why do you not just pull the smog pump and gut it and reinstall it as an idler pulley that way you arent hurting your hp.
