anyone else do this to their hatch?

My back glass was rattling and annoying me. So I took some black electrical tape and wrapped the bars where it hooks onto. Solves the problem for a pretty long time. It's nice. Just wondering.

The metal bars where the hatch comes down and latches to the truck. Ya only need to wrap it a couple times not many.

I'm gogin to try this on the doors as well. I added the "foam backer rods" into the rubber molding and it helps tighten them up alot but now when it does rattle , it's VERY annoying. This might quiet them down.

You wrap the hydraulic lift? Not the actual metal rod and goes in to the housing but the black housing itself correct?

I believe they are talking about the actual D shaped part of the latch, the fixed portion. Sounds like there is some slop in the alignment of the door and the tape is filling the gap. I tried the same thing on my old Daytonas hatch, it worked...well..until the tape came apart from the wear and tear and the small pieces got caught in the latch and it would no longer lock on and had to be replaced..
if the couple wraps of tape fix it, a minute adjustment on the door will do the same thing and is a lot cheaper than a new latch...

just my .02

How would you adjust the door? The rattle is driving me nuts on the dirt roads.

For those of you still confused, the OP simply taped the striker.

one thing to try using that would prob work better would be brush on tool handle coatings...only drawback I could see would be the hatch releasing...but it's not like it's going anywhere

Yeah I believe its called the striker. They are mounted solid to the truck. It's maybe two inches or less of tape I use. I haven't had to change it out for six months now. Depends on where I drive.
