F-3 460 swap
Hi, I recently bought a 1950 F-3 and am looking to change the motor to a 460 out of a 77 LTD. I have been told that there are kits that make the swap easy but I can't seem to find any for the 48-50 trucks although I have seen some for the 53-56 trucks. So I have a couple of questions. Are the frames similar enough between the two styles that the kit will work, or where can I find a kit that will work for my truck?

Hey, welcome to the site, when you get a moment and get it all figured out, and so that you are more assured of getting a answer, maybe you could put your location in the cp user profile, then we know where you are and can help better (or come over and drink your beer). You might also develop a signature line with the year and model and other info so that we don’t have to guess on the info or look at your profile (maybe, too lazy).
I’m putting a 460 in a f1 and truly am not aware of a “kit” as such to install it (might be though). You can get engine mounts kit and other parts, but one thing effects another of course, some cross frame tubular engine mounts will not work with a MII IFS, I think. The f1 frame is the same width as a 53 up f100 so that part is good, the f3 should have a bigger (higher) frame then the pickups though. If you wanted to do a “kit” (more info??) then I would think a fatty one could be modified to work.
In some (most) cases you will need a rear sump oil pan (and oil pump pick up) to avoid front cross-member interference. Should be in the "kit", right?

Thanks for the info, I didn't think about the oil pump thing yet. The "kit" I was trying to find was just the engine mounting brackets so I could simply bolt the 460 block to the existing frame. I've meet some people who have done it with 302's and 351's but can't remember where they got them. I'll keep searching but I may have to make my own.
