Will 2.8L run with Knock Sensor disconnected?

I'm following another thread in a different forum where a guy has an 84 BroncoII with 2.8L that ran fine, then just died as he pulled out of the driveway. He's found bad wires to the knock sensor and that the sensor may have been damaged when a mechanic did a clutch replacement.

So, will it run with that sensor disconnected? His engine won't start. It was running fine and just died.
