97 F250 460 HARD START COLD
My truck starts hard after sitting over night. Cold isn't really the right term becuase it's hot out now. It always took 3 cranks after sitting overnight. Lately the truck has been sitting for long periods of time and I noticed it was taking 4 cranks to get it to fire. I swapped out the rear tank (rot) and replaced the fuel filter. Now it cranks about 6 times and coughs a little may or may not run. If it doesn't fire after coughing, it fires on the 1st crank of the next attempt. Truck runs good, but is getting bad gas mileage.
I am suspect that the fuel is draining back into the tank when sitting, but I don't know how the fuel system works.
Does the fuel pump run for a set amount of time when the key is turned or does it run untill a certain pressure is hit?
Has anyone had a similar issue?
It is drivable as is, but I love this truck and would like to make it right.
Specifics
97 F250 460-7.5L 4x4 XLT extended cab short bed 2 tanks - K&N "cold air" (hate it) - 140K miles - Minute mount plow - Mostly stock (she was pretty when she left the factory and still is) - No longer the daily driver
