Key will not release from ignition following replacements

I have a 2002 Expedition 5.4L XLT 2WD that will not release the key from the ignition following replacement of shift tube, shift interlock solenoid, shift cable and Transmission range sensor. I need to re-adjust the steering wheel as it doesn't feel as tight when turning but it does shift smoothly now. When I place it in park, it sits fine, ignition starts when I turn the key, no rolling back/forward or anything but I am unable to turn the key all the way off and remove it from the ignition switch. I have to pull the ignition switch to remove the key and then turn the truck off with a screwdriver. I would appreciate any knowledge on the matter. Thank you in advance!

Sounds like the Range Sensor isn't adjusted properly. Set the parking brake first. With the ignition in the RUN position (engine not running), put the shifter in the Reverse selection position. Do your backup lights come on ? You may need to adjust the sensor so that they do. Then try the Park position and see if it releases your key and restarts properly.

The lights come on properly when in Reverse but something new happened yesterday. I drove it a bit and placed it in Park but the truck started rolling forward with a clicking noise beneath, sounded like the manual lever but had to place the ER brake for it to stop.

Ok. Try disconnecting the shift cable from the transmission link, and manually put the transmission linkage in Park detent, and with the shifter on the column in the Park position check the adjustment between the cable end and the tranny linkage.

That was my first thought but given my work schedule/daylight savings time; I was able to drive it and curently at the mechanic. He stated it sounds like something inside the trans despite my explanation but he will check it out all the same. I will get back with the results.
