It does decode to a 4WD, at least it does now after I fixed it.

I was about to sign off when you asked me to decode another, I had already decoded one a yours and another members '69 F600.

My peepers were blurry after spending 8 straight hours on this addictive site, typing other jazz, so I misread the VIN's series code and model code.

And, my '73/79 heavy truck catalog is on scratchy microfihe slides, that would blur the eyes of an owl in a NY minute.

Plus, I had to refer to a quoted post of yours (post 26) to type all the info into my post that you left out of post 24. How you managed that, I haven't a clue.

64 = Rockwell-Timken model F-106 Rear Axle / 6.80-1 / 15,000 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.

Consider, there are over 649,000 registered members of FTE and a gazillion different forums. There is 1 Ford partsman, retired or not, guess who.

It takes a lotta time to research/type all this jazz, and no one is paying me a penny to do it. Take advantage while you can, cuz nothing lasts forever.

Help reading a VIN

The VIN is F61ERH17195.

What I think I have is:
1970
Ford
391
dump
5 speed
F600

Trying to find tranmission for it. The cast number on the tranmission is 230790. I think it is a clark 282V

also if anyone know a place to find a maintenance manual it would be great too.

thank you for your time

Welcome to FTE

F61 = F600 (gas).

E = 361 2V FT engine (F = 391 4V).

R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.

H17195 = 1970.

While 230795 may be a Clark ID number, you need to post the TRANS code from the Warranty Plate to ID it. In fact you should post all the codes from the Warranty Plate.

Try faxonautolit.com for a shop manual, but be aware that Ford issued a shop manual one year, then added supplement manuals to it until the next major change (which occurred in 1973).

Faxon will be aware, since he's a Ford 'nut.'

I'm trying to order brake parts from napaonline and want to be sure I get the right ones. This is a dump truck my brother picked up from a water district that I'm trying to convert to a grain truck. Any info from the VIN or advise on brakes (seems to loose fluid but no apparent leaks) would be appreciated. VIN F70EVT69057

BTW I tried the vehiclehistorylookup.com site and it crunched away on the VIN claiming it was finding everything, then they took my Visa number ($1) and no report came. Their online chat basically said our database doesn't go back before '81 - too bad but you still have a credit.

Thanks

Welcome to FTE

No brake info is available from the VIN. There are four possible sizes of front brakes, six possible sizes of rear brakes. You will need to know the exact sizes before ordering parts.

Look on the drums for any numbers, post what they are. If Ford related, I can tell you what the front/rear brake sizes are.

F70 = F700 (gas).

E = 361 2V FT engine.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

T69057 = 1974.

Thanks Bill. I had no idea the brake options would be so complex. The truck is about 100 miles north of me in Idaho and I've got some young guys helping me. It may be that there is nothing worn out, but that it has just sat too long. Is this post relevant to this model?

Thanks again.

Sorry, don't know. Was a Ford partsman (1962/97), not a mechanic. But, someone in this forum will know. Start a new thread, then ask.

Welcome to FTE

F70 = F700 (gas).

H = 6.1L (370) 2V or 4V

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

GH1993 = 1980.

The Warranty Plate is located on the left door face below the latch. To get more info, post all the codes from it.
